iPhone 4 hates the MicroCell
Are you familiar with AT&T’s MicroCell? If not, this little device was made to increase your AT&T 3G coverage inside your home or office by using your broadband internet connection. The product, which sells for $150, seems to do a solid job of reducing dead zones inside — at least for most devices. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it works correctly with the iPhone 4.
Users are reporting choppy digital audio on their MicroCell-connected iPhone 4s, even with full bars of service, and strangely, this issue seems isolated to this handset model. AT&T’s solution of swapping the unit for a new one doesn’t seem to work either; the issue remains even with a brand new MicroCell.
Obviously this is a real pain for users. The only reason to get a MicroCell is to patch poor coverage indoors, and now it doesn’t even work. I wouldn’t be surprised if AT&T took a pounding for this, as this $150 solution doesn’t even work for its flagship device.
Do you have a MicroCell? Which handset are you using it with, and how well is it working for you? Let us know in the comments.
