Education discounts coming to the app store

Developers are being prompted to accept a new application contract with Apple through iTunes Connect. The updated contract enables education discounts when several quantities of the same app are being bought. Developers can offer up to a 50% reduction, which can be applied to all the apps a developer sells or only individual titles.

Imagine if universities get discounted apps for their students: The technology could be well implemented in the classroom. Should teachers supply quality applications that supplement the lectures or curriculum, who wouldn’t use them? The possibility are endless, and will only drive sales of iOS devices in colleges — especially given Apple’s back-to-school promotion giving away iPod Touches with Mac sales.

I think it would be more noteworthy if Apple allowed developers to supply discount codes to college students for individual use, but this is a good step in improving the App Store.
