AT&T releases U-verse app, watch TV on the move

For all the negative things you hear about AT&T, there’s now finally a positive piece of news about them — at least if you’re a U-verse customer. The carrier has released U-verse Mobile, an app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad that enables subscribers to remotely manage their DVRs, and download TV shows from the U-Verse collection straight to their device. The app works over EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi (though downloading shows only works over Wi-Fi). The app gives you access to your shows over any Wi-Fi connection, where you can select and download them. The service is free to anyone on the U300 plan or above.

In the past, AT&T has given the allowed remote management of DVRs over the web and via the Mobile Access app. But these only allowed for managing the service, not actually watching content. The U-verse app now replaces these, and adds to them by allowing access to TV programming directly on your mobile.  Currently the number of shows is limited, but the content and variety should keep growing as time goes by. So, U-verse subscribers, check it out, let us know how it performs. Does it fly or die? Comment below.

If you think this app is pretty cool, than you should see what the DISH Network app can do to the iPod. As a customer and employee of DISH I can tell you that the live streaming TV Everywhere app with Sling technology is the way to go. This way you can live stream all your channels directly to your smartphone or other related devices.

yeah got uverse U200, hd, tv phone, 4 iphones, ipad with att service. come on ATT

I am also a Subscriber of the U200, HD, and 3 receivers as well as the phone service. If it wasn't for the iPhone, they would be at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to service providers. I rate their customer service at a 4 out of 10.

It will die. The U300 requirement is ridiculous. I purchased two iPhone4s (one for my wife and one for myself), I subscribe to U-verse 200 (with sports pack, HD and 3 receivers) and I have a land line.......I still do not qualify? This is the problem with AT&T, they don't understand the customer as a whole. If their fragmented business units would work together they might actually please their customers. There is no logical reason why I should have to upgrade my U-verse service based on the amount of business I give them already..

And by the way I love TiP and wouldn't have known about this app if it wasn't for you guys!!! I am a major apple fan and check your site pretty much daily, sometimes more often than that, though I am ashamed to admit, and love reading everything you guys post! Yes, I do have a life, apple is just a major part of it! Thanks for everything you guys do!

This app is great! I have an iPod Touch and am using it right now to browse through TV channels, add or delete recordings, and view my recorded TV. I can't watch any of my recorded shows though... Should I be able to? Or is that not a feature of the app... All in all this app is great! Just knowing that I can manage my U-Verse recordings wirelessly makes me love the service that much more!!! Anyone who doesn't have U-Verse should get it! And anyone who does and is able to get this app shouldn't hesitate for a minute! Please answer my question though! Thanks!

Nvm I just figured it out... I was looking deeper into the app and found that when you tap more, then user guide, then watch a show on your phone, it says in a tiny font at the top of the page "This feature is not available when running the U-Verse Mobile application on an iPad or iTouch at this time." To me this is a major bummer, because I don't have an iPhone. Hopefully the "at this time" factor changes soon, and the feature becomes available on all iDevices. Does anyone have any insight as to when this could be? Thanks

Thanks for the feedback iPod. ;-) I hope for your sake that the feature is available sooner rather than later, at the moment though we don't have any more info than you.
