iPad battery life a sure thing… apparently
I’m not the only one with an iPhone who’s less than impressed with its battery life, and even though being able to swap the battery would be nice, I have always felt that the sexy form factor would have to be sacrificed somewhat if swappable batteries were introduced. So it’s not surprising then that the Cupertino-based company designed the iPad in the same way.
When the “revolutionary” tablet/slate/thingy was announced, Jobs boasted 10 hours of use from the battery, and now the apple store backs this up. The site quotes “if your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.” This fee is $99.
Now obviously there are terms and conditions to this guarantee, as with any. The battery life diminishing can’t be a result of accidental, physical or liquid damage, as this is not Apple’s responsibility. The only way a guarantee would ever cover this would be if the iPad was marketed as “waterproof, bullet proof, unsinkable and unbreakable.” In that case it would take an Iceberg to ruin it. Personally, I think this is a pretty good deal. If your battery’s juice only lasts 5-6 hours of use, or is steadily getting worse, then you can pay the hundred bucks and get a new device.
This should be an indication as to how confident Apple is in its newest piece of wizardry. However, if they were super confident in its longevity, would they not offer a free replacement?
