iPhone update breaks Tmo connection for unlocked phones
If you saw this post a couple of days ago, then you know that Apple released a new version of its iPhone software. But if you haven’t already loaded update 3.1.3, and have an unlocked handset on T-Mobile, you may not want to rush to grab this.
The new OS creates specific issues, like some third-party apps failing to launch and the installation of a baseband upgrade (version 5.12.01) that borks up the ability to unlock the phone and use it on Tmo’s network. The problems look like they only affect the iPhone 3G and 3GS, as the update doesn’t seem to mess with the 2G’s connection on Tmo.
Of course, if any of the rumors about the iPhone coming to”Magenta” pan out, then that would neatly and effectively solve the problem. Hopefully, it won’t be long until we find out for sure, one way or the other.

UPDATE: Check it out, jailbreakers: TiP reader Tom Parker has some goods for you. “Unlocking is available for the 3G and 3GS Iphones with the old bootrom.” If you understand what this means, you’ll want to check out his link, for the full info plus instructions. If you don’t know what jailbreaking, unlocking or bootroms are (but wish you did)… well then, stay tuned. We’re looking into some cool jailbreaking content in the future. Thx, TP!

Actually, this is only 1/2 correct. Unlocking is available for the 3G and 3GS Iphones with the old bootrom.
You can read about it here:

Nice. Glad that’s sorted (at least somewhat). Thanks for spreading the word. I’ll update the post.
